Keroche Breweries Industry Ltd director Tabitha Karanja will be charged afresh this morning in a court in Nairobi in the Sh14.5 billion tax evasion case.
The Nakuru Senator Ms. Karanja was supposed to appear in court for a hearing before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu, but the hearing was postponed because she was not present and was allegedly attending business in Naivasha.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has however expressed concern over the dismissive approach Ms. Karanja has been taking to the case.
The prosecution reminded the court it had previously warned Ms. Karanja against absconding court proceedings.

A senior State prosecutor told the court that they wanted to ask leave of court to institute fresh charges against the senator.
“Your honour, we are also ready to proceed with the hearing with five witnesses among them four from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA),” said the prosecutor.
The three-year-old case has been pending at Milimani Chief magistrate’s court since August 23, 2020, when it was filed in court.
