Laikipia County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Onesmus Towett has dismissed rumors surrounding the death of Kirinyaga IEBC official Geoffery Gitobu.
The DCI stated that Geoffrey’s death was sudden and not murder.
Moreover, Geoffrey, who was the returning officer for Gichugu constituency in Kirinyaga is said to have visited his family in Nanyuki after overseeing last week’s general elections.
According to reports, the IEBC official felt dizzy and afterwards collapsed and died suddenly.
Moreover, the Laikipia DCI boss noted that there is no evidence linking his death to murder.
He then added that a report filed at the Nanyuki police station by the Kirinyaga IEBC official’s kin indicated that it was a sudden death.
“Reports that an IEBC official was murdered are not true, the report was of sudden death of somebody who collapsed in town. No case of murder or manslaughter has been reported here,” DCI Towett noted.
Furthermore, Towett asked members of the public to wait for the post mortem which is set to be conducted tomorrow, August 24.
He also asked Kenyans to stop making speculations into the sudden death of the Kirinyaga IEBC official.
The remarks by Laikipia DCI come following social media reports insinuating that Geoffrey Gitobu was murdered for political expediency.
“We have opened an inquiry and thereafter we will give a report, a postmortem will be conducted tomorrow to establish the cause of his sudden death. So let the politicians and everyone else stop speculations,” he said.
