Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has warned that the country could plunge into a food crisis situation should the ongoing maize and wheat shortage not be addressed.
KMA together with Cereal Millers Association (CMA), Association of Kenya Feed Manufacturers (AKEFEMA), Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC), warned that shortage of maize and wheat will likely push up the prices of flour
The Agro-Processors Association of Kenya (APAK), Grain Belt Millers and Farmers Association (GBMFA), Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET) and United Grain Millers Association (UGMA) have also raised the red alarm over the shortage of the two commodities which are their main raw materials.
The manufacturers and processors are afraid that increased commodity prices will likely result into high inflation rates.
Currently a 2kg packet of maize flour is retailing at between Kshs 155-165, while a 2kg packet of wheat flour is retailing at between Kshs 185-195.
