Members of parliament have completed the refund of Ksh460 million they irregularly received in allowances.
The allowances were received between October 2018 and December 2020.
They were paid to members of the National assembly and their Senate counterparts.
Outgoing Clerk of the National Assembly, Michael Sialai, says the MPs completed the refund at the end of this Financial Year.
Each lawmaker refunded a total of Ksh1 million in monthly installments of between Ksh169,000 and Ksh172,000.
Some MPs had to forego their monthly mileage allowances to settle the debt
The Salaries and Remunerations Commission(SRC) successfully petitioned to overturn a decision by MPs to award themselves allowances.
The High court overturned the move but the Parliamentary Service Commission filed an appeal at the Appellate court.
High court Judges Pauline Nyamweya, Weldon Korir and John Mativo agreed with the SRC petition
The court termed the PSC move unconstitutional .
SRC had argued that the PSC lacked both constitutional and statutory mandates to set allowances for members of parliament and parliamentary staff.
The Court of Appeal upheld the decision by the High Court.
PSC had granted the lawmakers Ksh250,000 in house and accommodation allowances without the approval of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
