During his final days on earth, the late former president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, made peace with himself, his family, and everyone around him.
While giving his tribute, Kibaki’s eldest son, Jimmy Kibaki, talked about how the death of their mother, Lucy Kibaki, in 2016 became a major turning point for their entire family.
President Mwai Kibaki’s illness started immediately after his wife’s burial, during which he knew that sooner or later, he would reunite with her in the afterlife. Jimmy added that his father was ready for his exit from the world or, as he put it, “Had his luggage packed for exit.”
The former president, addressing his family before his admission to the Nairobi Hospital ICU on April 13th, 2022, said his one wish for his children was to stay together and take care of his grandchildren. He informed them that if they honored his wish, they shall have made the former First Lady and him proud and happy in the afterlife. President Mwai Emilio Kibaki took his last breath on April 22nd, 2022.
The late Kibaki was fond of his grandchildren. During his last term in office, they visited the statehouse and spent time with him at his Muthaiga home after his retirement. As part of his tribute, Jimmy confirmed that being a meticulous man, Kibaki put his house in order before his demise. In addition, he promised no family feuds over property would arise among them in his father’s absence.
