Nairobi Half Life Actor Olwenya Maina was reported to have collapsed yesterday and was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the hospital on Monday, July 4. The family of Olwenya is expected to give a detailed statement on his passing later.
Olwenya Maina is mostly known for his role in Nairobi Half Life, a film about an aspiring young actor looking to make it big in Nairobi. His role as a gang leader named “Oti” gained the actor love and respect among lovers of film. He was nominated for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role by the Africa Movie Academy Award for the role.
Nairobi Half Life was selected as a Kenyan entry for Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards for the Oscars in 2013.
Outside of The Nairobi Half Life, Olwenya was casted in Stories of Our Lives, Poacher, Taliya, and Pendo.
Olwenya was also featured in season two of MTV Shuga and Crime Drama The Fifth Estate.
Beyond film, Olwenya was a voice artist, taking up the role of the main station voice artist at Radio Jambo. He made appearances in TV commercials and spotted in Churchill, Mali, Tahidi High, and MNET’s changes.
Olwenya Maina was part of the cast of Country Queen, the first Kenyan licensed branded series that will premiere on Netflix on July 15, 2022.
