The Ministry of Education has opposed plans by the Kisumu County government to relocate two schools from within the Central Business District of Kisumu city
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has said that the two schools, Kisumu Boys and Kisumu Girls are safe where they are.
Speaking when he toured Kisumu Girls High School on Saturday, Prof Magoha said his office had not been approached with the proposal to relocate the two institutions from the Kisumu CBD.
The CS said should the proposal be tabled before him; it will be taken through public participation for the interested parties to decide.
Kisumu governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has argued that the two schools which sit on rime land within the CBD should be relocated because they are of no economic value.
The governor has suggested that the two schools should be relocated to Chiga in Kisumu East Sub County to pave the way for expansion of the city.
Among other institutions targeted for relocation from the Kisumu CBD include the Manyatta Arab School, Kisumu County Referral Hospital, the main bus terminus, and the Jua Kali market.
