President William Ruto has appointed former Chief Justice David Maraga to chair the taskforce set to improve the terms and conditions of service in the Kenya police force.
The president in a gazette notice dated December 21, highlighted the need to improve the working conditions of police officers.
He noted that the Government is working to ensure they have adequate resources to execute their mandate.
Moreover, the president stated that his government will be firm to address the perennial welfare challenges that continue to compromise the efficacy of the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS).
“The imperative of strengthening the security sector remains a national priority and the primary means of surmounting the emerging and dynamic security challenges we face,” he added.
Likewise, the taskforce will be mandated toEAD:.
- Review and recommend improvement on the terms and conditions of service
- Identify and recommend legal policy institutional and operational reforms in NPS and KPS
- Recommend matters related to police welfare in all cadres of the police force
Apart from Maraga, Carole Kariuki is also joining the taskforce as Vice Chairperson alongside 21 other members.

The other members include Moffat Kangi, John Moyaki, Obrahim Guyo, Richard Kirundi, Elizabeth Mueni, Roseline Odede, Joash Dache and Doreen Muthaura.
Others are Albert Mwenda, Terry Maina, Hassan Mohamed, Capt. (Rtd) Simiyu Werunga, Mutuma Ruteere, Anne Ireri, Stephen Kayongo, Jafaar Mohammed, Sammy Chepkwony and Khadija Mire.
Moreover, three more joint secretaries have also been appointed.
