A traffic police officer based in Mombasa lost his life on Tuesday, February 28 after a confrontation with a motorist.
According to a police report seen by The Kenya Times, Julius Marwa was controlling traffic flow at Buxton junction when he asked the motorist to pull over the roadside for a traffic check.
The motorist identified as Osman Jama Abdi defied Marwa’s order to switch off the engine of his Toyota Ractis for the deceased policeman to conduct a traffic check.

It’s reported that the traffic officer then tried to turn off the engine of Osman’s vehicle forcefully, leading to a confrontation.
Osman is said to have grabbed Marwa’s hand, stepped on the accelerator pedal, and sped off.
After driving for a few meters, Osman pushed Marwa out of the vehicle, and he was run over by the rear will.
The police officer sustained injuries to his head and pelvis. “He was rushed to Jocham hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” part of the statement seen by The Kenya Times read in part.
The deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary of Jocham hospital awaiting postmortem.
After a detailed investigation, Osman was found locked inside his car at a basement parking within beach road estate in Nyali. His car was towed to Makupa Police Station where he is detained.
