President William Ruto has officially appointed and Gazetted the names of the 51 Principal Secretaries who were vetted and approved by the National Assembly.
Gazetting the Principal Secretaries paves the way for their swearing-in which is set to take place on Friday, December 2 at State House Nairobi.
Moreover, the National Assembly approved the vetting reports presented by various departmental committees that carried out the vetting exercise of the 51 nominees on Thursday, December 1.
However, the assembly’s Minority side questioned the way the vetting and approval of the Principal Secretaries was rushed. But the Kenya Kwanza side led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa defended the move saying the government needed their services in their respective ministries.
“…we have done this very quickly because, every committee took time to interrogate the nominees,” said Ichung’wa
Nonetheless, vetting of the Principal Secretaries had been delayed by a petition filed by the Law Society of Kenya.

Their petition was however dismissed by the court on grounds that it was filed prematurely.
The Law Society of Kenya had filed a petition seeking to stop the National Assembly from proceeding with the vetting, arguing that the list lacked gender balance, tribal balance, and regional balance.
