President William Ruto has appointed Michael Kamau as the new chairperson of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) board.
This appointment marks the former Transport Cabinet Secretary’s return to public service.
The head of state in a gazette notice on Friday, December 23 stated that Mr. Kamau’s new role takes effect from today and will serve for a period of three years.
Moreover, the former Transport CS comes in replacing Lewis Nguyai who served in the position since February 2021 after his appointment by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Likewise, the president appointed ex-army boss Julius Karangi as chair of the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) board.

Julius comes in replacing former Kinangop MP David Ngugi who was appointed in May 2021. He will serve in his new capacity until July 20, 2024.
President Ruto has also appointed Nyamira county governorship hopeful Walter Nyambati as the chairperson of the Board of Geothermal Development Company.
Mr. Nyambati will serve in that capacity for a period of three years.
