The outgoing Clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai has officially handed over to her successor Serah Kioko.
The Parliamentary Service Commission appointed Ms Kioko to assume the roles of the Clerk of the National Assembly in acting capacity.
Speaking during the handover Sialai said under his leadership he professionalized and mainstreamed services to respond better to MPs needs.
Sialai will be taking over as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Namibia later next month
He will be officially retiring on July 1st
Sialai was first appointed as a First Clerk Assistant in the National Assembly in 1996 and rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Clerk.
The National Assembly appointed Sialai to the position of clerk in 2017
On her part Serah Kioko has been serving as Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly
She has been overseeing and supervising chamber duties and assisting the Clerk in offering advisory to the Speaker. She boasts of a 28-year long service as a Parliamentary Officer.
The incoming Thirteenth parliament will elect a new substantive Clerk or confirm Ms Kioko
Activist Okiya Omutatah moved to court to stop the twelfth parliament from picking a new clerk for the next parliament.
The case is yet to be heard.
