James Orengo former Siaya Senator, now the Governor has ‘shot’ at Chief Justice Martha Koome, claiming the ruling by the Supreme Court on the Presidential results petition case was a shame to the Judiciary.
Orengo who was the senior counsel representing Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga, called out the seven-judge bench during a funeral on Sunday 11 September.
The Siaya Senator accused the court of rendering a political verdict after the seven-judge bench disregarded all nine issues raised by The Azimio la Umoja legal team.
“Chief Justice Koome you have brought shame to the Judiciary by rendering a judgement that in the eyes of the ordinary people who fought for you to make sure a Chief Justice can have independence,” Orengo said.
The law practitioner also pointed out and questioned the choice of words used while delivering the ruling, saying the words used not even a baraza ruled by a chief would use such.
“The person who wrote that judgment has done a great injustice to the rule of law. I respect the court, and I have practiced law for a very long time. A lot of the judges in the Supreme Court are my juniors.”
“Judges speak in words that are measured so that even the loser in a court of law feels like justice has been done. Not even a baraza presided by a Chief would use the kind of language that was used at the Supreme Court. Shame to you judges!” he resented
The apex court upheld William Ruto’s victory in the August elections who is set to be sworn in on Tuesday 13 September.
