The head of State, William Ruto on Tuesday appointed four Court of Appeal judges and two Environment and Land Court Judges who had been nominated during Uhuru’s regime.
In his inauguration speech, Ruto confirmed to appoint the judges on the same day.
“To further demonstrate my commitment to the independence of the Judiciary, this afternoon I will appoint the 6 judges already nominated for appointment to the court of appeal, three years ago, by the Judicial Service Commission, and tomorrow, I shall preside over their swearing-in ceremony so that they can get on with the business of serving the people,” Ruto stated
President Ruto signed two Gazette notices promoting the six judges.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces, appoint –Korir Weldon Kipyegon, Muchelule Aggrey Otsyula, Odunga George Vincent, Joel Mwaura Ngugi,” read the first part of the gazette.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint- Makori Evans Kiago and Cheruiyot Omago Elizabeth to be judges of the Environment and Land Court.
Ruto also stated that his administration will scale up budgetary allocation to the judiciary by an additional 3billion for the next five years.
Ruto further promised to work together with the Judiciary to help conclude corruption and other cases to enhance efficiency in the provision of Justice.
