President-Elect William Ruto has said Cabinet Secretaries will be required to appear in Parliament to answer questions from members
Addressing Kenya Kwanza elected leaders In Karen, Ruto said they will amend standing orders to create room for a question and answer session between members of parliament and Cabinet secretaries
Ruto said it is not enough for cabinet secretaries to only appear before parliamentary committees
He observed that the people of Kenya thorough their representatives have a right to interrogate cabinet secretaries.
“We have talked with our speaker and we have agreed that something has to be done,”he said.
Currently cabinet secretaries do not appear in parliamentary plenary meetings.
They only appear before house committees which then present communication to the whole house.
At the same time,Ruto warned public servants against engaging in politics and asked them to let politicians do their own work
He assured that no public servant will be victimized and asked them to serve Kenyans without discrimination
Ruto added that their was no time to relax and called on all elected leaders to get to work and deliver their promises
He reminded leaders that responsibility comes with accountability
During the meeting Ruto announced that some 8 Members of parliament elected as independents had joined his side
