David Ole Sankok on Monday, July 4 announced his retirement from politics.
The Nominated Member of Parliament via an interview with Spice FM, stated that he is not contesting for any elective post in the forthcoming general elections. He further reported that he is putting his focus on personal businesses.
“The issue of contesting is a personal decision. I decided this time round not to seek any elective position. I need to focus on my businesses because I started engaging in the advocacy of people with disabilities at a very early age, so I never had space to develop myself and that is what it is,” he said.
However, Mr. Sankok who is a representative of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the National Assembly also reported that he will keep on fighting for their rights.
“If you’ve followed debates in Parliament, you’ve probably noticed that I always arrive on time for debates and always leave after the Speaker. I am always on time because I don’t want anything to go by without me bringing up the issue of persons with disabilities. I was recognized as the best performing male MP for three years,” Sankok added.
Moreover, the politician revealed that since joining active politics in 2017, he has suffered major frustrations including financial constraints at some point.
In addition, Sankok reported that Kenyan politics is a tough game where everyone thinks you are their property. He further revealed that as a disabled person, he struggled to get to where is and not used to giving out free things
Furthermore, Sankok has been a fierce supporter of Deputy President William Ruto and his UDA party.
Meanwhile the nominated MP is currently facing charges of improper storage of a firearm. The charge follows the death of his 15-year-old son who allegedly committed suicide in May this year.
