Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei on Thursday accused his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna of being against women for opposing the nomination of Aisha Jumwa.
“Aisha Jumwa is competent enough. If Senator Sifuna has a problem, he should bring it before the appointment committee,” Cherargei said.
Aisha Jumwa, the immediate former Malindi MP, is the Cabinet nominee in the ministry of Public Service and Gender.
Sifuna had termed the nomination as a joke.
“There are people in Kenya Kwanza like Kithure Kindiki who are competent for any government position, but Aisha Jumwa is a big joke. She is not competent or suitable for any position,” he said.
Sifuna however said he had nothing against women in power or nominated for seats in the government as Ruto had nominated competent people in the cabinet.
“President Ruto has named people like Rebecca Miano, Soipan Tuya, Penianah Malonza and Susan Wafula who are competent,” Sifuna said.
“There are good people in Kenya Kwanza but just by the names he has proposed, it is clear William Ruto wants to run all the ministries because we know the competencies of the people he nominated,” Sifuna said
Sifuna further stated that competency does not mean suitable.
