National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has cancelled a special sitting for MPs that was scheduled for today, Wednesday, July 13.
Muturi blamed the government printer for failing to publish a gazette notice that would have legally paved way for the special sitting.
“In light of the foregoing, this is to notify you that the special sittings of the house that were scheduled to be held on Wednesday,13 July 2022 stand cancelled,” Muturi said in a notice.
“Any inconvenience caused to the House and the Members is highly regrettable,”.
The Speaker alleged that the government had declined to print a gazette notice convening the sitting.
” It is worth noting that the Government printer has declined and failed to gazette the special sitting for reasons not explained to us, despite the requisite documentation being forwarded to his office in good time last week,” Muturi said.
Earlier on MPs allied to the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance had threatened to boycott the sitting which they termed illegal.
Today’s sitting was scheduled to discuss among other bills the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill 2022.
The contentious Huduma Bill 2021 and the ratification of Defence Cooperation Agreement between the Kenyan Government and the Governments of the Republic of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland were also to be discussed.
