President Uhuru Kenyatta received a special message from Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves on Thursday, May 5, at State House Nairobi.
The message was delivered by President João Manuel’s Special Envoy Ambassador Leovigildo Da Costa Silva and Ms Efigenia Dos Jorge, who is the Charge d’affaires at the Angolan Embassy in Kenya.
On behalf of his president, Special Envoy Ambassador Da Costa Silva thanked Kenya for its role in securing peace in Angola, adding that the people of Angola valued their partnership with Kenya. Da Costa Silva also reiterated his country’s condolence message to President Kenyatta and Kenyans following the demise of the late former President Mwai Kibaki, stating that his death was not only a loss to Kenya but also the whole continent and the world.
After receiving the message, President Uhuru stressed the need for African countries to speak with one voice on international issues, especially those that directly impact the continent. He went ahead to appreciate the prevailing strong relations and cooperation that benefited both Kenya and Angola.
Ambassador Da Costa Silva concurred with president Kenyatta saying that it is time for Africa to forge a united front at the global level to protect them against external factors that may negatively impact the continent’s progress.
Furthermore, in a different function at State House Nairobi, President Uhuru bade farewell to the Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya, Meles Alem Tekea. The president applauded the outgoing Ethiopian Ambassador for his good work in enhancing bilateral relations between Kenya and Ethiopia, which grew by leaps and bounds during his tour of duty in the country.
Ambassador Meles thanked the president for his support in ensuring his work and stay in Kenya was successful. Dignitaries in attendance were; Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo and Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua.
