Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said teachers will not be forced to work anywhere.
Gachagua says under the new education reforms, the government will not coerce teachers to work in certain areas.
“We agree in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto that the process of delocalisation should be done away with so that teachers are able to work anywhere without being coerced to work in certain areas,” he said.
The DP says ending teacher delocalisation was among the priorities the Presidential Working Party on the Competency-Based Curriculum was reviewing.

The committee tasked with education reviews is expected to submit its interim report to President William Ruto on Wednesday.
The Kenya Kwanza government had promised to hire 160,000 teachers in two years but the plan was pushed ahead due to lack of funds.
New teachers will bridge the huge shortage in public schools and close the gap in the teacher-student ratio.
On November 3, MPs unanimously approved a motion by Lurambi MP Titus Khamala to successfully reverse the delocalisation policy which has been a subject of debate among the various education stakeholders.
Hundreds of teachers have already applied to be transferred close to their homes.
