Academic staff from public universities are enraged by Machogu’s silence despite the alleged privatization of the institutions.
According to UASU Secretary DR. Constantine Wasonga, Hon. Ezekiel Machogu has kept mum and refrained from commenting on the matter despite the ongoing debate for over two weeks. While speaking on Tuesday, when teachers’ unions from primary, secondary, and universities met, Wasonga urged Machogu to pick a side. “Machogu must now come out and say whether he is supporting this plan because his counterpart has talked, and he is just quiet,” he said.
The Unions, all of whom opposed the planned move, consisting of the Universities Academic Staff Union, Kudheiha, and Kenya Universities Staff Union, launched research findings on the campaign against privatization and commercialization of and in education.

. He urged Machogu to pick a side on the matter. He added, “Because if he supports it, we will ask him for a statement. “I want to assure you, my colleague, that we will go to Jogoo House to get a comment.”
This comes two weeks after CS Kuria said there is a need to privatize some universities in the country. He said that he is in talks with investors to partner with universities and make them better places.
“I’m talking to international investors who are willing and ready to come and partner with our universities to privatize some of the universities. I’m not saying all.”
Wasonga however believes that the said investors will be hidden in Cartels in Government.
He says, “We know there is no investor who will come from any outside country. They are just the same cartels who have been disturbing us in the university sector.”
