Tesla on Thursday evening made the first deliveries of its Semi truck to customers.
The event included two truck cabs decked out in the livery of Pepsi and Frito-Lay, PepsiCo’s snack foods subsidiary.
The semi-truck prototype was first unveiled in 2017 when the CEO, Elon Musk, promised production would start in 2019.
Musk, however, did not give the exact number of the trucks being delivered to PepsiCo, speaking during Thursday night’s presentation at Tesla’s factory in Sparks, Nevada.
The electric motor manufacturer said the trucks performance accelerates much more quickly, even with a full load, than traditional diesel-powered semi-trucks.
One of the distinctive features for the semi-trucks is the position of the driver’s seat, which is in the center of the cab rather than on one side.

More of the features include three electric motors, one of which drives the truck most of the time while the other two are used mostly for acceleration and hard pulling, the truck can pull up to 82,000 pounds and can drive five hundred miles on a single charge.
Tesla’s senior managers for truck engineering Musk and Dan Priestley further said that the trucks came with new “megawatt” ultra-fast chargers that will be used to quickly refill the truck’s batteries fast.
