According to a recent survey conducted by research firm Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA), Kenyans have expressed their views on the achievements and failures of President William Ruto’s government in his first six months in office.
The survey revealed that the high cost of living is the most significant concern for Kenyans, with 37% of respondents citing increased economic hardship as the main area where President Ruto has failed so far.
Additionally, 14% of those surveyed were dissatisfied with the government’s failure to keep campaign promises, while 9% cited an increased corruption rate and the dropping of major corruption cases as reasons for concern. TIFA’s research analyst, Tom Wolff, noted that much of the unfulfilled “campaign promises” were also of an economic nature.
On the other hand, the launch of the Hustler Fund was cited by 29% of respondents as President Ruto’s top achievement, followed by stabilizing the cost of fertilizer at 5% and enhancing national unity and cohesion at 4%.
Looking forward, 71% of Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation, identified a reduction in the cost of living as the top priority for the remainder of President Ruto’s term. Job creation (49%) and addressing issues in the educational system (22%) were also mentioned as important priorities.
TIFA conducted the research between March 11 and 19, with just over 2,065 randomly-selected respondents.
