The Venezuelan arrested with IEBC election stickers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursday, was Friday, July 22 released from custody.
Police detectives from the DCI began probing the matter after IEBC tags were seized from a passenger who had them in his travelling bag.
Moreover, the passenger allegedly carried 17 rolls of stickers for various constituencies in the country. The police officers intercepted the rolls and arrested the foreigner for questioning.
National Police Service spokesperson Bruno Shioso reported that investigations revealed the stickers recovered are bone-fide property of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In addition, according to the NPS, their investigation was aimed at understanding why the venezuelan had the sensitive election materials and where he got them from.

“The arrest, impounding and subsequent investigations into the material were necessitated by the sensitivity of election material,” he said.
According to a press statement released on Friday, July 22 by NPS, the foreigner was apprehended because;
- The said stickers were not accompanied by an IEBC official as per routine procedure and they were not declared as per the law.
- Such sensitive material was carried in the personal luggage of a foreigner
- The police, as per standard procedure and arrangement with IEBC, were not notified of such an import beforehand to provide necessary security and escort.
Nonetheless, the suspect has been released from custody after investigations and the stickers handed to IEBC.
