Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula today resigned from his senatorial seat to contest for the National Assembly Speaker Position.
The Bungoma senator–elect hinted of his resignation after confirmation of his nomination for the seat under Kenya Kwanza, as agreed with other parties under the coalition.
The announcement was made during a Kenya Kwanza meeting in Karen by the Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
“I have the singular honor and privilege on behalf of Kenya Kwanza to announce that we have unanimously agreed that the Speaker nominee for the National Assembly for the Kenya Kwanza coalition shall be Moses Masika Wetangula, Papa wa Roma,” Mudavadi said.
In accordance with the constitution a Senator-elect is required to resign if to vie for the Speaker of the National Assembly.
While addressing the media on Friday,2, September 2022, Wetangula spoke of his aspirations to be the third most powerful politician in Kenya, after the President and Deputy President.
“I’m going to be the National Assembly Speaker, the third in command in the country, I want to assure our Kenya Kwanza we have the numbers… Those who decamped to our team saw this country is headed in the right direction,” he said.
Moses Wetangula on Monday picked his nomination papers for the particular seat, confident Kenya Kwanza had the numbers to help him win the Speaker’s seat.

The IEBC is expected to organize a by-election for the Bungoma senatorial seat, where the Lion’s party has already endorsed Wafula Wakoli for the particular seat.
