A bus carrying 47 passengers left 27 dead after it flipped on its side on a highway in Guizhou province in China.
In a social media statement by the Sandu County Police, the bus was traveling south in the direction of Guiyang to Libo county.
The other passengers were rushed to the hospital where they received treatment.
According to social media posts by the China Road Network Monitoring Service, the accident occurred around 2;40 am.
Major roads in the province have been closed in adherence to the Covid 19 guidelines put in place.
The province, home to over six million residents, was on lock in early September due to increased Covid infections with Guizhou registering 900 new cases.
With the current covid restrictions, the bus traveling in the morning hours was very questionable, especially by angry citizens on the internet who demanded answers.
One hundred toll stations are shuttered in Guizhou because of Covid-19 restrictions and long-distance passenger journeys across China are banned from running between 2:00 am and 5:00 am.
