Communities in three Australian states have been ordered to evacuate as torrential rain brings major floods.
According to reports several parts of the country have received three times the amount of average October rain in 24 hours.
More than twenty people have died from the floods in 2022.
During the recent floods, one person has died and another missing.
Rescuers have been searching for the 63-year-old man thought to have been swept away on Tuesday.
At least five hundred homes have been flooded, as the disaster unfolds.
In the Victoria state in Australia, communities have been asked to vacate their homes as it has been worst hit during the week.
In New South Wales, about six hundred people were told to evacuate from the town of Forbes, where about 250 properties and businesses were expected to flood.
Residents have termed it as one of the worst floods experienced in the state in decades.
“This has only just started, and it’s going to be with us for a while,” Premier Daniel Andrews told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
In a couple of towns, the floods have swamped roads, cut power to over three thousand houses and businesses, and further led to school closures.
For instance, in Seymour town, rains over 155mm in 24 hours – three times its average October rainfall, or about a quarter of the average amount London receives in a year have been received.
