13 people have been reported dead after a Russian warplane crashed into an apartment building in Yeysk Town in Russian.
According to reports, the Su-34 Warplane crashed on Monday evening of October 17, suffering engine failure after two of its engines caught fire during takeoff.
The pilots ejected before the jet landed on the apartment building causing a huge fire.
The 13 people, among them three children died on the spot while 19 others were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The report by the Russian defence ministry indicated that 68 people were rescued from the nine-Storey block.
At least 17 apartments were said to have been affected by the fire, and about 100 were said to have been evacuated.
“According to a report from the pilots, who jettisoned from the warplane, the reason for the crash was a fire in one of the engines during takeoff. At the point where the Su-34 came down, in the courtyard of a residential block, the plane’s fuel supply caught fire,” the Russian defence ministry said.
Authorities said they reserved emergency rooms and operating halls at local hospitals and scrambled medical aircraft.
Further investigations into the accident have been launched.
