Kiraitu Murungi’s Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) has joined the William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
Moreover, DEP was formerly an affiliate party of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party.
The president-elect William Ruto through his social media on Friday, September 2 made the announcement as he praised Kiraitu for the move.
In addition, Ruto stated that it Kiraitu’s move was critical for ensuring the continued pursuit of uniting the country.
“Received the leadership of DEP at the Karen Office, Nairobi, led by former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi,” Ruto wrote on Twitter.
“We welcome the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) to Kenya Kwanza. Their resolve to work with us is an indication that leaders agree that the interests of Kenyans override our personal or party interests.” He stated.
Furthermore, the DEP leader’s resolution to join Ruto comes barely a month since he lost Meru gubernatorial race by Independent candidate Kawira Mwangaza who has also joined Ruto’s political outfit.
Likewise, following the conclusion of the August general elections, other leaders and parties affiliated to Azimio have since joined Kenya Kwanza despite opposition from Raila’s camp.
