Opposition leader Raila Odinga has revealed truth behind the conspiracies explaining his resignation as the African Union (AU) envoy for Infrastructure and Development.
While indicating that he left the AU envoy role voluntarily, Mr. Odinga revealed that President William Ruto had also petitioned the union to terminate his contract.
While speaking during an interview with KTN News on Tuesday, February 28, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader noted that the president had requested the AU Chairperson Moussa Faki to fire him when he visited Ethiopia, Addis Ababa on February 17 to attend the 36th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly.
“I did not lose it because I had already indicated to Faki that I would exit because I had done my best but there was a lot of demand for my time back home,” he said.

As such, Raila highlighted that President Ruto had no hand in his departure from the African Union, adding that Faki had informed the Head of State on his request to leave the agency.
“It is not him who had sacked me,” the opposition chief noted adding that if he had not presented his request to quit, Faki would have refused President Ruto’s request.
Nonetheless, Mr. Odinga explained that his departure from the African Union was just a coincidence at the time when changes at the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) were taking place.
Furthermore, the Azimio boss took up the AU envoy role in October 2018 months after ending an anti-government civil disobedience campaign.
