United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has said the party plans to register at least 15 million members by 2027.
While speaking on Thursday, May 18 at the UDA headquarters, Malala urged party coordinators to take the member-registration exercise seriously in their regions.
He further announced that UDA currently has a membership of 9.98 million.
“We want to urge party coordinators that when you go back home, make sure you register members. The IEBC register has about 22 million voters and we would like to have at least 15 million people as UDA,” Malala stated.
Moreover, the UDA secretary general noted that they intend to have those numbers so that they can easily win elections.
“When elections come, we just ask our members to vote for us and we win elections. We still have about 5.5 million members we need to register to join our party.” He added.
He further added that the party must win any election by a simple majority based on the weight of the party membership.

Nonetheless, Cleophas Malala has been pushing for membership registration in opposition strongholds since his appointment as UDA secretary general.
Malala made these remarks at the party headquarters where he hosted the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and party coordinators.
The second in command expressed confidence that UDA will be so popular that it will share popularity with ODM in Nyanza on a 50-50 basis.
He further said UDA has taken over regions where Jubilee and ODM were the most popular parties, and the tide continues to shift in their favor.
