AFC Leopards’ head coach, Patrick Aussems, is concerned about the club’s recent injuries that could jeopardize their chances of winning the championship this year.
Due to a Fifa ban, the club is unable to add new players to the squad during the ongoing transfer window. The situation has been worsened by the increasing number of injuries among the players, most of whom were promoted from the academy side last season.
Three key players were missing in the team’s previous match against Mathare United, leading to a shock 1-0 loss.
“Bandi is currently nursing an injury. He has a meniscus problem which has been subjected to an MRI check to reveal the extent of the damage. Kayci aggravated an injury he sustained earlier in the warmup session before our tie against Mathare. Then Musa sat out with a dental problem,” Aussems stated.
Aussems is optimistic that the trio will recover in time for the next match against Posta Rangers. The club currently places sixth on the log with 32 points, eight behind leaders Gor Mahia.

“I believe we have a good team that can rise to the occasion against any opponent, but the persistent injuries are now a big cause for concern because they could hamper our mission,” he added.
In other Round of 20 fixtures on Thursday, leaders Gor Mahia will play KCB, Ulinzi Stars will host champions Tusker, and Wazito and Nairobi City Stars will face each other.
Nzoia Sugar will play Kenya Police, Sofapaka and Kakamega Homeboyz will play each other, Mathare United will host Bandari, and Kariobangi Sharks will travel to Bukhungu stadium to face Vihiga Bullets.
