Athletics Kenya Nairobi branch chairman Barnaba Korir has asked President Ruto’s Government to invest more in sports.
During an interview with NTV, Korir who wants the government to build world class stadiums stated that Kenya failed to host the 2025 World Athletics Championship due to lack of proper infrastructure, while all other boxes had been ticked right.
According to Korir, proper focus on bridging the gaps in sports infrastructure, will make Kenya ready to bid successfully for the 2027 World Championship.
“The World Athletics has goodwill for Kenya but during the 2025 bid we lost to Japan because they had world class sports infrastructure to host the global event.
“I urge the current government to at least come up with either one or two world class sport facilities so that when we are bidding against our rivals, we will have a solid background to win the bid,” stated Korir
Moreover, the Nairobi athlete’s chairman thanked the outgoing Sports CS Amina Mohammed for her support towards the growth of athletics in the country during her tenure.

“She was supportive to the federation in all the events that we hosted and others that team Kenya participated in. We are hoping the incoming Cabinet Secretary will raise the bar higher.” He added.
Furthermore, Korir mentioned that their wish is to have a CS who will understand the needs of all the sports federations in the country.
According to him, there is great potential for the growth of sports in this nation, that has not been tapped.
Nonetheless, Kenya has hosted the World-Under 18 and 20 Championships during Amina’s tenure, and held two editions of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold the Kipkeino Classics
