Mo Farah has been forced to pull out of this weekend’s London Marathon.
The four-time Olympic champion has disclosed his hip is yet to heal, from an injury obtained earlier in the month.
Farah had received intensive and sufficient treatment throughout the month in preparation for the London marathon.
The champion also did not compete in the Tokyo Olympics last year which means his last race was in 2019.
“I’ve been training really hard over the past few months, and I’d got myself back into good shape and was feeling pretty optimistic about being able to put in a good performance,”
“However, over the past 10 days I’ve been feeling pain and tightness in my right hip. I’ve had extensive physio and treatment and done everything I can to be on the start line, but it hasn’t improved enough to compete on Sunday.” said Farah on Wednesday.
Mo Farah expressed his disappointment in not taking part in the London marathon, commending the country for its support to the athletes.
He went on to wish all the best to fellow athletes, promising to take part come 2023.
“It’s really disappointing to have to withdraw after a good last few months and after my win at the Big Half (earlier in September) but also because I love racing in front of my home crowd in London who always give all of us athletes such amazing support.”
‘I wish everyone taking part on Sunday a good run and I hope to be back out there with you in April 2023.” He added.
The London marathon route will take in some of the most famous landmarks in the city – including Buckingham Palace, The Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf.
The Kenyan Marathon champion Kipchoge will be in attendance but will not participate in the race.
Kipchoge last week on Sunday smashed his own world record at the Berlin Marathon, lowering it to 2:01:09.
