Kenya Met Lists Regions Set to Receive Rain Days to Christmas

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a seven-day weather outlook for the period between December 17 to December 23, 2024. Kenya Met gave the weather update days to Christmas as festivities kick in. 

In the forecast issued on December 16, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Coast.

However, Northeastern and North-western Kenya are likely to be generally sunny and dry.

The weatherman has also provided the general temperature forecast along with predictions for selected towns across different parts of the country.

Lake Victoria, Rift Valley & Western Provinces

Sunny intervals are expected in the morning in counties within the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley but occasional rains may occur over few places.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places in the afternoon and at night.

Counties in these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties.

Sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy in counties in the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

They include Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo and West-Pokot Counties.

Similar weather conditions are expected in Turkana and Samburu Counties.

Weather Forecast for Nairobi & its Environs

Intermittent cloudiness is expected in the morning giving way to sunny intervals for counties within the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County.

“Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places,” Kenya Met predicts.

Other counties within this region include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi.

North-eastern Kenya

The weatherman forecasts Sunny intervals during the day with partly cloudy nights in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties.

Morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers are expected to occur over few places within the South-eastern lowlands region.

The counties include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and the inland parts of Tana-River County.

Morning, afternoon, and night showers are expected in a few areas of the Coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County.

Temperature Forecast

Average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in several parts of the country including the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and the Central and North Rift Valley.
