Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Dr. Deborah Barasa has declared her net worth.
Speaking before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments on Thursday, August 1, Barasa revealed that she had amassed Ksh.455. 8 million.

Deborah Mlongo explained that her sources of income include a combination of her assets and her husband.
“My net worth is a combination of mine and my husband Ksh. 455, 845,320,” she said.

Educational Background of Deborah Barasa
The new Health CS nominee graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB).
She also holds a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the same institution from September 2012 to December 2017.

Deborah is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Mulongo is a medical doctor specializing in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Barasa has over 18 years of field experience as a senior medical officer with progression to an Internal Medicine Physician and technical advisor having worked in health institutions both national, referral, private and Community Based Organizations.
She has worked as an internal medicine physician at Mater Hospital and as a consultant physician at CHANF Community Health Services (CHANF-CNS) in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Before her appointment by President Ruto to lead the health ministry, she was employed as an Internal Medicine physician and Infectious Disease Expert at the World Health Organization (WHO) Africa Hub in Nairobi for more than four years.
At the WHO, she has established sustainable programs in Eastern Southern Africa, supports member states in developing and implementing national action plans and offer technical guidance on global policies and guidelines.
Deborah Barasa has worked as an Internal Medicine Consultant Physician at CHANF Community Health Services in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

Deborah Working at KNH and Mater Hospital
In addition to her experience, the nominee for Health CS served as an Internal Medicine Physician at Mater Hospital.
She has also worked as a physician and a Senior Technical Advisor HIV/TB/Communicable and non-communicable disease at the Eastern Deanery Aids Relief Program from November 2008 to July 2023.
Furthermore, she served the role of a Senior House Officer/ Senior Registrar at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) from September 2012 to September 2017.
Her core competencies include Internal Medicine/Infectious disease, communicable and non-communicable disease prevention and control for clinical cases and public health programs.
The health CS nominee has a strong background in developing technical products (guidelines, assessment tools, training modules, SOPs etc.), conducting monitoring and evaluation, partner engagement, leadership and coordination from regional, national to facility as well as community levels.
