Moi Forces Academy (MFA)-Nairobi is a national public boys’ secondary school that was established following a request by nursery school children at Moi Air Base (MAB) to the late former President Daniel Arap Moi.
The children appealed for a school to be built to spare them from having to travel long distances to access primary education.

True to his commitment to public welfare, President Moi honored the children’s request.
He held the first fundraising event (harambee) on June 9, 1979, during which a record Ksh7.8 million was collected.

The Academy is situated on 56 hectares of land donated by the Kenya Air Force, Moi Air Base (MAB).
It was initially established as a mixed boarding secondary school, alongside a day primary division.
In 1989, MFA phased out the three streams of Forms 5 and 6 following the full implementation of the 8-4-4 system of education.

In 1990, the secondary division of Moi Forces Academy became a boys-only institution following the transfer of female students to Moi Forces Academy – Lanet.
Currently, the secondary section has six streams each in Forms 2 to 4, and seven streams in Form 1.
MFA has two dormitory blocks, each containing three houses named after military barracks: Moi, Eldoret, Lanet, Nanyuki, Mombasa, and Lang’ata. Each house is further divided into three wings.
Performance
Over the years, MFA has demonstrated outstanding academic performance in national examinations.
In the 2024 KCSE, the school had 407 candidates, with more than 97% achieving the minimum university entry grade under full government sponsorship.
Notably, 11 students scored a straight A, while 51 earned an A-. Additionally, 99 students attained a B+ grade, 119 scored a B, and 83 managed a B-.

The school’s impressive performance—achieving a mean score of 9.071 in the 2024 national examinations—can be attributed to the combined efforts of teachers, students, parents, and the school’s alumni network.
School Fees
The government previously issued a directive outlining the maximum annual school fees that parents should pay. Under new guidelines introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Education, Kenya’s 103 national schools were grouped into four clusters.
Moi Forces Academy was placed in Cluster Three, meaning the official annual fee cap for students is approximately Ksh75,798.
However, actual fees may vary slightly from school to school due to additional charges levied by individual institutions—such as for uniforms, motivation programs, or co-curricular activities.
For instance, the total annual fees for Moi Forces Academy students in Forms 2, 3, and 4 during the 2024/25 academic year amounted to Ksh87,954.
