Initial symptoms of poisoning include headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, and vomiting, progressing rapidly to unconsciousness and convulsions in severe cases.
Repeated exposure, even at lower levels, can cause long-term health issues such as neurological damage, thyroid dysfunction, and cardiovascular problems.
The environmental impact is also severe, posing a significant threat to aquatic life.
Sodium cyanide contamination in waterways can result in extensive fish kills and long-term damage to aquatic ecosystems.
Although the compound degrades over time, its initial impact is often catastrophic.
Ministry Advise
The MOH has warned looters that the chemical is extremely dangerous and should be avoided.

Also, comprehensive training on its hazards and emergency response procedures is mandatory for anyone handling the substance.
They further advised on immediate access to antidotes in case one is poisoned by the toxic substance. The public is urged to stay informed and heed all safety warnings issued by authorities.
