Fred Kapondi is a Kenyan politician and a member of parliament representing Mount Elgon Constituency in Bungoma County.
He was elected in the 2007 general elections as a member of parliament, where he has served to date.
Kapondi was reelected to parliament in the 2022 general elections under the United Democratic Alliance.

Kapondi’s academic journey began with his primary education, which he completed between 1971 and 1982 at Toroso Primary School.
He proceeded to sit his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) in Musingu High School from 1983 to 1986, where he achieved a Division One grade.
From 1987 to 1988, he attended secondary school for his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) at Kolanya High School.
Kapondi went on to enrol at the University of Nairobi in 1989, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Political Science between 1989 and 1992.
Career
Fred Kapondi entered national politics in 2007 when he first vied for the Mt. Elgon parliamentary seat under the Orange Democratic Movement.
Kapondi successfully served as MP from 2008 to March 2013. During that tenure, he chaired the Administration & National Security Committee and served on several parliamentary oversight committees, including National Cohesion & Equal Opportunity and Powers & Privileges.
Beyond his legislative role, Kapondi was appointed chairman of the Post Bank from 2015 until March 2017.
In 2017, he reclaimed his seat as MP for Mt. Elgon under the Jubilee Party and currently aligns with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as of the 2022–2027 parliamentary term.
In 2022, Kapondi again retained his Mt. Elgon seat in a tightly contested election, securing 25,466 votes against his closest challenger’s 21,923.
