President William Ruto’s ally and Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has announced that he will be taking a sabbatical leave from politics and public engagements.
In a statement, Sudi explained that he made the decision since some of the activities he engages in like harambees, have been used against him.
“Going forward, I’ll not participate in any Harambee because it has been used to malign and disparage the good course—let it be banned. Thus, the current happenings in the country call for introspection and consequently, I’m taking a sabbatical leave from public engagements,” he said.
Oscar Sudi said he is considering quitting politics, noting that it has taken most of his attention at the expense of his personal life.
He also took a swipe at Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale who had castigated him over church donations, stating that he shall contribute money to the Church the Senator was speaking at when he resumes public engagement after a one- or two-year leave.
“If God allows me to change my mind, because I am even thinking of quitting politics, I am doing much more in politics than what I am doing for myself. I am taking a one- or two-year leave, but if God allows me, I will start with the Church Khalwale was speaking at,” he said.
Additionally, the MP stated that the leave was prompted by the “noise” and jealousy of politicians like Khalwale.
Oscar Sudi Clarifies Ksh20 Million Church Donation
Sudi supported the calls for the ban on Church harambees saying that people are usually not aware of the struggle’s politicians undergo to get the cash they donate.
The MP questioned why Khalwale and others didn’t believe that he and his friends could contribute Ksh20 million.
He explained that all his wealth has been through sheer hard work and not corruption, as alleged by Khalwale.
In reference to the harambees, Sudi affirmed that he has never contributed Ksh20 million as alleged.
“The Ksh20 million was the total amount raised from the harambee; in fact, the Church had raised Ksh14 million, and we just added the extra Ksh6 million with my friends who believe in God,” he said.

He dismissed those questioning the source of his wealth, stating that he started conducting harambees even before he joined politics.
Oscar Sudi asked politicians and Kenyans to focus on real issues instead of questioning the properties owned by others.
“I saw a lot of discussions, including about the watch I was wearing; check the year I bought the watch in question. I bought my Range Rover when I was 22 years old, so stop disturbing yourself with some things,” he said.
“Let’s stop focusing on stupid things. Do you want all of us to walk on foot? The problem is that Khalwale and some other people believe in poverty.”

Boni Khalwale Plea to Ruto
Khalwale had earlier asked President Ruto to tame corrupt Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and MPs.
Speaking during a Church service at Musabale PAG Church in Kakamega, Khalwale said Kenyans are agitated by the high levels of corruption among CSs and politicians.
He questioned how some leaders close to Ruto managed to purchase choppers and contribute huge sums of money in harambees.
“How can a normal MP donate Ksh20 million in one Church, then move to another one and give the bishop a new Prado? Your MPs should stop displaying what they have not earned; instead, they have stolen from the people of Kenya,” Khalwale said.
