Benson Kipruto secured victory in the men’s Tokyo Marathon, setting a new race record with a remarkable time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, and 16 seconds on Sunday, 3rd March 2024.
Kipruto led a Kenyan podium sweep with Timothy Kiplagat who finished at 2:02:55 and Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich crossing the finishing line at 2:04:18.
The 32-year-old’s time was almost two minutes better than his previous personal best and made him the fifth-fastest marathon runner of all time in events approved by World Athletics.
The 2022 Chicago Marathon champion also surpassed the record of Eliud Kipchoge 2:02:40 attained in 2022.
Kipruto a renowned Kenyan athlete, relentlessly covers distances in the quaint town of Mosoriot, situated at the entrance to Nandi County, famously hailed as the Source of Champions.
