A man accidentally set himself on fire while testing methylated spirit at a local hospital in Garissa County on Friday, May 27.
Police report states that Mohamud Haret purportedly took one of his friends to Mukona Hospital for a medical checkup.
As the nurse attended to the friend, Haret asked the medical practitioner out of curiosity whether the methylated spirit in the examination room was flammable or not. The nurse jokingly told him to test it out for himself, telling him to apply it on his body and ignite it.
“The victim followed the instructions and in the process got serious burns in the head, chest and hands,” the police report reads.
Mohamud Haret was moved to Ghal Private Hospital for further treatment where he is currently in a stable condition. Moreover, police officers in the area are still carrying out investigations into the unusual incident.
