Ruto’s Director of Communications Hussein Mohamed, during an unusual press conference held at midnight said that the long-awaited decision will be announced to the public on Sunday, May 15.
“The running mate issue was extensively discussed today, we are happy to announce that we have a decision as Kenya Kwanza and the decision has been reached and will be officially communicated to you, to the country tomorrow,” said Mr. Mohamed who later clarified he meant Sunday and not Monday.
Aside from Kenya Kwanza Coalition deciding who Ruto’s running mate will be, Mr. Mohamed reported that they also held a series of meetings on Saturday, May 14 to discuss other matters. For instance; they agreed on a program on the Bottom Up Economic Forum and the development of charters for the remaining counties.
The meeting was attended by Kenya Kwanza Coalition’s bigwigs led by DP William Ruto, Musailia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula, Speaker Justin Muturi, Amason Kingi, William Kabogo, Alfred Mutua and Moses Kuria.
Moreover, the Alliance had earlier in the week announced that they will make known Mr. Ruto’s running mate on Saturday, May 14, but that never materialized with rumours of last minute jostling further complicating the political headache.
Furthermore, some of the top names mentioned for the running mate position include: Tharaka Nithi Senator Kindiki Kithure, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
