A petition has been filed in court seeking to block candidates with court cases from vying in the upcoming August 9, polls.
In his argument, the petitioner, lawyer Edward Asitina, states that having candidates who have been removed from office by impeachment, questionable integrity and those with ongoing cases for economic crimes running for office, are a danger to the constitution.
Mr. Asitina argues that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has refused to ban individuals with questionable integrity from running for public office.
According to him, having such people vying for public office is a violation of the constitution, as well as eroding public trust.
