The Ministry of Health on Tuesday, May 17 reported 25 new COVID-19 infections from a sample size of 2,315 tested within the previous 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 1.1 per cent.
Out of the 25 cases, 6 are foreigners while the remaining 19 are Kenyans; 12 of them are male whereas 13 are females and the youngest is an 11-year-old while the oldest is 69 years old. When it comes to distribution across the country, Nairobi reported 17 cases, 4 were from Kiambu while Mombasa and Kisumu each had 2 positive cases.
While speaking in a newsroom, health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, stated that 22 patients who were all from the Home-Based and Isolation Care program recovered from the disease, hence, pushing the total recoveries to 318,192.
Nonetheless, no death was recorded, hence, the cumulative fatalities stand at 5,649. Moreover, as of May 16, 2022, a total of 18,016,510 vaccines had been administered across the country in the vaccination campaign.
“Of these, 16,360,168 are doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above), another 1,309,570 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years, 32,587 are below 15 years but above 12 years while 314,185 are booster doses.” stated CS Kagwe.
According to Kagwe’s report, the total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 6,978 while the total number of people fully vaccinated is 3,444. He added that the percentage of adults fully vaccinated was 30.7, stating that the government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27, 246, 033.
