The names of Returning Officers who will be in charge of the August 9 General Election have been gazetted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
According to the gazette notice dated April 28, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati will be the Returning Officer for the Presidential Election on August 9, 2022.
The notice includes the names of Constituency Returning Officers and Deputy Constituency Returning Officers as per the selection made by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Moreover, Abdidahir Maalim will serve as the Returning Officer for Kenyan citizens in the diaspora, while William Tumaini Kahindi will be his Deputy Returning Officer.
“The appointments are for the August 9, 2022, General Election exercise,” “The Constituency Returning and Deputy Returning Officers shall also be Registration and Registration Assistants for purposes of the verification of the register of voters exercise scheduled to be conducted from May 4, 2022, to June 2, 2022.” the gazette notice read.
Wafula Chebukati notified citizens who made an application for registration. Their names or biometric data was not accurately captured to claim within the 30 days to the Registration Officer.
The IEBC chair also said that applications for new voter registrations and changes in registration of voters in Kenya and Diaspora citizens shall be postponed from Wednesday, May 4 to March 13, 2023.

- Announcing election results in a designated electoral unit
- Determining disputed votes
- Signing official results declaration forms
- Forwarding official result declaration form to the national tallying center
- Declaring the winner in a given electoral unit
