Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called out the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) boss Twalib Mbarak concerning his response to her calls for neutrality in the war against corruption.
Through her tweet on Friday, June 3, Waiguru dubbed Twalib’s remarks reckless after the anti-graft czar said her complaints on the fight against corruption are shameful.
“You’re supposed to be an impartial investigator, not a peddler of “everyone knows” village shopping center narratives. Produce evidence if you have it not the info that is politically instigated by your Harambee house masters. As I’ve always said Kenya is a nation of law not might,” Waiguru’s tweet read.
Kirinyaga Governor’s remarks comes after, the EACC blacklisted 241 candidates on June 1 and asked the IEBC not to clear them noting that they are unfit to contest for public office. Governor Waiguru, Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko are among the notable names EACC blacklisted.
While responding to being one of the blacklisted aspirants, Waiguru said that the EACC would have hanged them over politically instigated claims, were it not for Constitutional safeguards that separate investigations, prosecution and adjudication.
Twalib on the other hand responded saying that governor Waiguru’s social standing on corruption was in the public domain.
“Governor Anne Waiguru’s comments are extremely shameful, as Kenyans know her well, including her social standing on integrity,” Twalib said.
At the same time, the Kirinyaga governor termed Twalib’s reaction as shocking and unproffesional.
“You hold a constitutional Cap 15 office that demands highest level of impartiality and professionalism. Your reckless response on such a matter proves your unworthiness to hold such a serious office,” said Waiguru.
