Fresh details have emerged following the death of a police officer who was killed in a fatal accident involving a trailer while riding a motorcycle.
Police officers in Kakamega on Thursday April 11, 2024, launched a manhunt for the driver of the trailer which was involved in the accident along the Eldoret-Webuye Road.
The driver is reported to have fled the scene immediately after causing the accident.
A report filed at the Lumakanda Police Station revealed that the officer attached to Fort Tenan Police station who was home on leave, died on the spot.
“Due to the impact, the Police officer died on the spot,” read part of the report.
The accident which occurred at around 10 am involved a trailer that overturned in the Magut area, several Kilometers from Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.

Police reported that the Mercedes Benz truck that was heading towards the Eldoret general direction rammed into two motorcycles upon reaching Spring Park Area along the busy highway.
In a viral video seen by The Kenya Times, the overturned trailer with foreign number plates could be seen beside a road with a motorbike and a body lying a few meters from the truck.
Police Officer Killed
The officer is said to have been riding one of the motorcycles, a TVS Star model when the truck hit him.
Additionally, the accident left the other motorcycle rider with bruises on his face and injuries on his right leg.

The rider was ferrying three female pillion passengers who were rushed to Turbo Sub-County Hospital for treatment.
Witnesses arriving at the scene including National Youth Service (NYS) officers started rescue operations helping the occupants of the trailer to evacuate.
The occupants, including a lady, were seen to have suffered injuries following the accident.
On the other hand, the body of the deceased officer was removed to Kimbilio Mortuary as efforts to trace the driver of the truck were launched immediately.
The accident comes at a time National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Ministry of Transport have heightened measures aimed at curbing the rise in road accidents in the country.
According to latest data from NTSA, about 1,214 lives have been lost in road accidents in the last three months around the country.
