The Democratic Party is facing online backlash after an Easter-themed social media post highlighted former President Barack Obama while omitting Joe Biden, prompting critics to question why the party appeared to bypass its most recent leader.
The post, which referenced “better times at the White House,” drew scrutiny from users and commentators who interpreted the omission as a slight toward Biden, with some calling it politically significant.
The Democratic Party posted the Easter message on its official X account on Saturday that included a photo of Obama but made no mention of Joe Biden.
The image showed Obama from behind, standing next to a person dressed in an Easter Bunny costume, with the Washington Monument visible in the background. The caption stated, “Better times at the White House.”
Social media users quickly noted the absence of Biden, who served as president immediately before Donald Trump took office in January 2026.
Democratic Party Shares Obama Image on Easter
The post drew replies that focused on the omission. Christian influencer Renatta Oxendine wrote in response, “Why are y’all skipping over Biden?” Other users posted similar questions about why the party chose an image tied to the Obama years and left out the most recent Democratic president.

The Democratic Party did not add any text naming Biden or include him in the photo. The account published the message without further explanation.
The post appeared on Easter weekend and spread quickly on the platform.
Newsom Press Office Post Prompts GOP Response
The Democratic Party’s post followed a similar action by California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office. That office posted a message that encouraged users to repost “if you miss having a President with a functioning brain” along with a photo of Obama.
Newsom’s office later published a separate message that praised Biden’s empathy.
The Republican Party’s official X account responded to Newsom’s initial post. It resurfaced an earlier message from Newsom’s office that read:

“Happy birthday, President JoeBiden! We miss having a president who has physical stamina, and a functioning brain.” The GOP account added, “We know you ‘can’t read’ but remember posting this?”
Why this matters:
The two posts appeared days apart and both used images of Obama while avoiding direct references to Biden in the first versions.
The timing has kept the exchanges active on X, with users continuing to share screenshots of the original messages and the replies they received.
The Democratic National Committee has not issued a statement on the Easter post. The party has not responded to requests for comment on why Biden was not included.
