Equity Bank has announced that its transactional services will undergo a planned 3-hour system downtime, during which certain services will be temporarily unavailable.
In a statement dated February 15, Equity Bank announced a planned system maintenance affecting its Equitel STK services and transactional SMS notifications.
According to their statement, the scheduled maintenance is set to take place from 10:30 PM on Sunday, 15 February 2026, to 1:30 AM on Monday, 16 February 2026, during which these services will be temporarily unavailable.
“Due to a planned system maintenance, Equitel STK services and Transactional SMS notifications service will be unavailable on Sunday, 15/2/2026 from 10:30 PM to Monday, 16/2/2026 1:30 AM,” the Equity Bank statement read in part.
Other Equity Bank Services to Remain Operational
The bank assured its customers that during this period, all other banking services will remain available, and customers can continue using alternative channels for transactions.
Additionally, the bank apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary service interruption and confirmed to users that normal services would resume immediately after maintenance.
“All other banking services remain available. We apologise for the inconvenience,” it noted.
Equity Bank also reminded customers to remain vigilant against fraud. The bank contacts clients from only one official number: 0763 000 000 and will never request PINs, passwords, OTPs, or card information via phone or SMS.
Customers are advised not to engage with anyone asking for such details.
Equity Bank Equitel STK Services and Transactional SMS Notifications
Equity Bank’s Equitel STK services and transactional SMS notifications are key components of its mobile banking platform, providing customers with convenient access to financial services directly from their phones.
Equitel STK allows users to perform a wide range of banking transactions, including funds transfers, bill payments, loan applications, and account management, without the need to visit a physical bank branch.
The service is designed to provide secure, real-time access to banking services, making it an important tool for both individual and business customers across Kenya.

Transactional SMS notifications complement the Equitel STK service by providing real-time alerts on account activity.
Customers receive immediate updates on deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and other transactions, helping them monitor their accounts and promptly detect any unauthorised activity.
These notifications are crucial for enhancing account security and promoting financial transparency for users.
Alternative Means to Use
An alternative to Equitel STK services and transactional SMS notifications is Equity Bank’s mobile app and internet banking platforms.

The Equity mobile app provides a comprehensive digital banking experience, allowing customers to perform account management, transfers, bill payments, loan applications, and airtime purchases directly from a smartphone.
It also offers real-time notifications and transaction alerts within the app, providing functionality similar to SMS notifications but with enhanced features, including account statements, budgeting tools, and secure login options such as biometrics.
Internet banking is another alternative, enabling users to access their accounts via a web browser.
Customers can initiate transfers, pay bills, and monitor account activity online. While internet banking relies on internet access rather than the USSD-based Equitel STK, it offers more detailed account management and reporting features.
